A poem

Well, I've been kind of wanting to write something all month, since April's National Poetry Month and all, but my poetry talents are kind of middling. Nevertheless, I finally sat down and carved out a sonnet. So here it is.

What now? We live or perish by this kiss?
Should Time be halted at the catching breath?
Should such a burden weigh on lovers’ trysts
That Love holds power unto life or death?

Oh no, harsh Reason answers with disdain –
The same heart beats in lovers loved or spurned.
The earth revolves regardless of our pains;
All passion fades at last, bright though it burned.

And yet, and yet – I feel the quick’ning flush
To stand thus poised ‘tween triumph and despair –
Bid blaring Reason, for this moment, “Hush!”
If life is more than this, I do not care.

We kiss. Still spinning neatly in its range,
The world knows not, yet is forever changed.
