A Thousand Stars: Episode VI, Part 4
May. 21st, 2026 09:21 amWho is this mysterious figure, entering Jabba's palace apparently of their own power? Why, it looks like Luke, our bright-eyed hero! But what's he doing in that dark cloak -- and good grief, is he Force-choking the guards? Isn't that Vader's signature move? Yikes.
The color choices are quite significant here. In Episode IV, Luke is usually dressed in white. Makes sense, wearing a light color on a deathly hot planet. In Episode V he spends most of the time in the clothes that go under his flightsuit, which just happen to be gray. And now he's in black.
Perhaps even more concerning, who does he most resemble in this outfit? Who else wears a dark hooded cape? Yeah, the Emperor. Of course costuming is not equivalent to character, so it's not that we have concrete proof that Luke has become evil. It's only that uncertainty, that unsettling sense of the appearance of the Dark Side. The highest stake in this film, you see, is the destiny of Luke's soul.
Next time, a little ingenuity...
