This screen is so huge! My parents brought up a spare computer to replace the one that burned out on us, and wow it's enormous. I suppose I've gotten used to the laptop, but even so - this will take some adjusting. Anyway, since my dad's spent most of the day getting the computer set up, this is the first chance I've had to get to my drabble. It needs to be a quick one so I can go to sleep and not be exhausted during church tomorrow. :)

A Private Joy
---------
"Where's the rain?"

Jango looked at his son with a wry smile, then turned back to the controls as he eased the ship down on one of Coruscant's many landing platforms. "It doesn't always rain on other planets, Boba. Sometimes entire days can go by without any rain."

"No," Boba scoffed. "Impossible."

"Just wait." Jango rose and helped his son unfasten his buckle. "When we get off the ship onto the platform, take a good look at the sky. You might not see a single cloud in it."

Still shaking his head in disbelief, Boba clambered down from his seat and followed his father outside. As soon as he emerged from the ship, his gaze went upward. Jango restrained a chuckle at his widening eyes.

He began to let out a stream of chatter, something he only did around Jango. "How do they get enough to drink? It must get so dry. Is that why there's no water on the ground, just lots of buildings? The sun must be so bright without clouds. Do people go blind from looking at it? Why don't they do something to make it rain?"

Jango let Boba's little voice wash over him. Eventually he'd give some sort of answer to every question. For now he allowed himself to enjoy this bright, questioning mind, a developing duplicate of his own intelligence. He pitied other parents, having to share children with partners. Boba was his and no one else's, a private joy, a creation to shape as he saw fit.

Another time, Boba had asked the question Jango had long been expecting. "Why don't I have a mother?" And Jango had given the clear answer. "You don't need a mother. You're stronger than that."

Ha, I like the ending line, very Jango.

Cute scene, though. I'm not really much of a Fett fan, but on the other hand I really like seeing well-written child characters in fics, so this works. :~)

Thanks! I'm not a big Fett fan either, but I was getting dry for ideas and my husband suggested a scene with them. I figured it was a good way of stretching my characterization skills. ;)

Nice scene with the Fetts. I can imagine this happening between Boba and Jango.
