Reflection
------
Vader had awaited the boy's arrival with a very particular anticipation. He knew that he would see his old self in his son, and was prepared to mock him in the same way that he had long derided his own youthful optimism and naivete. He had been a fool in so many ways, believing in people's inherent goodness, placing his trust in people who would inevitably turn traitor, by their very nature. He had allowed himself to think happiness was possible, but every day he learned anew what a lie that idea had been. This boy, his stolen son, would reflect all of those notions in the face he had inherited from his father. It was Vader's duty and right to disabuse him of every notion.
It would probably be a shock to see his face unblemished again. But Vader would get over it quickly. He heard the doors slide open and shut again. Then footsteps. Cautious, but unhalting. Recklessness. Another familiar trait. Vader waited. And then he came face-to-mask with his son.
It was not his own face that he saw. It was his wife's.
