Atypically late today, but still plenty of time before midnight. ;)

Sisters
----
There were ten more minutes before the ceremony. She might still come.

Lily bit her lip and peered out the window. It shouldn't be too hard to spot a car coming, not when everyone else was arriving by Apparition or the Floo Network. So far, the road was empty.

It was wrong to get her hopes up. Petunia hadn't responded to the invitation. The most she had done to acknowledge James at all was to send a curt congratulations upon hearing of their engagement. I'm sure you'll be very happy with his sort of people.

A lump rose in Lily's throat as she turned to the mirror and examined the face looking back at her. Disappointment weighed down her expression. She had never expected to feel like this on her own wedding day. Oh, she was very happy to be marrying James, of course - a smile crossed her face as she imagined joining hands with him; sharing a kiss as they completed their vows - but her happiness wasn't quite complete.

Could she really blame her sister? How she would recoil at the other guests; at their so very un-Muggle-ish clothing and their wands waving casually about. Lily let out a mirthless laugh as she imagined just how Petunia would react to hear that one of the groomsmen was a werewolf.

But she was her sister. They were all the family they had left since Mum and Dad died. Was it too much to ask that Petunia come to see her own sister, her only sister, get married?

Apparently so.

This was how it would be, then. Lily in one world, Petunia in another. Separate families, separate lives. She might as well get used to it.

They were calling for her; the ceremony was starting. Putting her disappointment aside for another time, Lily turned from the window and went downstairs.
