A Thousand Stars: Episode II, Part 10
Jan. 26th, 2023 09:11 amOn the refugee ship, we see the evolving nature of Anakin and Padmé's dynamic through a new positioning.

No longer one of them looking down at the other. They're at the same eye level, a reflection of how they're conversing now like peers. It feels particularly meaningful that the conversation revolves around the difficult nature of a Jedi's life, because this is something Anakin and Padmé actually have in common to a certain degree. She can empathize with someone who's devoted their life entirely to a higher cause, as she's been serving her people in public office since adolescence. It makes sense that she would be keen to discuss the implications of self-sacrifice.
Not that their relationship is on perfectly steady ground, of course -- Anakin slips up in mentioning how he's dreamed of her, and Padmé drops her gaze as a way of backing off from this familiarity. It will take more negotiating and adjusting before they're on the same page, but this scene illustrates a definite shift.
Next time, vast vistas with narrow scope...
