A Thousand Stars: Episode III, Part 2
Nov. 2nd, 2023 12:17 pmOnce the Jedi infiltrate Grievous's ship, we get some marvelous interplay that shows how their relationship has evolved since the last film. Much of this comes across in the dialogue, but we also have close-ups of some delightful facial expressions.

Obi-Wan might be the more measured and cautious member of this pair, but he still flashes this grin when he suggests they "spring the trap." Some of that "reckless" behavior he later references to Yoda, perhaps.

A bit exasperated at Anakin's rash move to get out of the elevator, but he's more resigned to it by now, aware that it's just how his old Padawan works. Just another day with the Chosen One, never a dull moment.

And then this humorous image that becomes poignant when you see it as foreshadowing. Obi-Wan jumpily prepares to defend himself before realizing it's Anakin. But later...well, let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Out of context, you might think they're having a serious argument. But it's just Anakin defending Artoo against Obi-Wan's complaints, with delightful banter. Seems like this might be an ongoing debate about the droid's competence. So much of the angst and tension in their relationship has eased into a friendly, comfortable rapport. You see it in their faces, their body language, all their interactions. Compare these shots to any given exchange from Episode II, and you'll note how much has changed. Making future events all the more painful, of course.
Next time, shadows of a throne room scene...
