Whew! So the rain got so bad it pulled down a phone line - not our line, so we were fine until the phone company came by to fix it - and then our line went out. And stayed out for nearly a week. Grr... On Saturday a truck came again and they were working on it for a while, so we waited by the phone and kept picking it up to listen for a dial tone. Nothing. Then they left. Er...excuse me, but were you actually doing anything here, or just playing with wires? We would have called the company to let them know our phone wasn't working, but, you know, Our phone wasn't working!! At last, at last, my husband got a hold of them at work and they said, "Oh, I'm sorry - we have the work order right here...I'm not sure why we haven't taken care of it yet. Sorry, the work day is over already. We'll send 'em over first thing tomorrow." And so finally we're back on line - the repair guy had to go down to our basement and all sorts of stuff - I wonder at their general incompetence that they had to first make it worse before making it better - but then, I'm no expert. I'm just glad to have the Internet again. No car, phone or Internet, pouring rain - I felt like Emma and I were stuck in a cave. But now we're out, and we've ever had some significant periods of sunshine!

Today my little sister turns 18. She'll be off to college in the fall - it must be really weird for my parents. They'll have the house all to themselves. Which is why they're contemplating selling it and getting a smaller one. I'm not particularly happy about that, since it's the house where I grew up and I have many a fond memory of it, but it turns out I'm the only child who's expressed any sadness about it. My sisters and brother aren't nearly as sentimental as I am, I guess.
