I don't doubt some of that takes place. But I've actually had similar experience from the opposite end of the spectrum: feeling singled out because I don't have children/a husband yet, and am not anywhere close to having either. It seems increasingly rare anymore that do you not see a woman my age who does not have at least one child, or is married/in a relationship.
Either way, I agree, I don't think a woman should be considered an oddity because of which path (mother vs. non-mother) they chose to take.
