Star Words: Episode II, Part 19
Feb. 1st, 2018 04:29 pmNot all of my favorite lines from the prequels are deep or full of meaning. Some are just plain fun to quote.
When Obi-Wan starts sneaking around the catacombs of Geonosis, it's either a testament to his sleuthing skills or dumb luck (though I suppose he would say "there's no such thing as luck") that he conveniently comes across the Separatist leaders discussing their secret plans with Count Dooku. The Trade Federation, the Corporate Alliance, the Commerce Guild, the Techno Union -- all of them are sitting there at the table, plotting galactic domination. It's like a scene from a James Bond-type spy film -- an evil mastermind convention, if you will. (They're actually puppets of a much more evil puppet master, but that's coming up later.) Anyway, in my view, the best line from this scene comes from this guy.
"The Banking Clan will sign your treaty."

I love his snotty, self-satisfied delivery. Just look at that smug face. Or I don't know, maybe Muuns always look like that. But I can't tell you how many times my husband and I have repeated this line to each other in his ridiculous tone. And it's all the more amusing to us that his name is San Hill. What the San Hill is going on here? Hah. I don't know, it amuses me.
In any case, Obi-Wan knows now that Viceroy Gunray is behind the attack on Senator Amidala and that Dooku agreed to arrange it in exchange for Gunray's cooperation with the Separatist cause. His investigation is officially over, and he can deliver his findings and return home. Except he's not going to get away from Geonosis that easily.
Next, beautiful and heartbreaking words from Anakin's mother...
