Grump, grump, grump...
Jul. 28th, 2006 11:35 amIt's insanely hot. I want to spend all day lying in bed with the fan blowing in my face. The heat has fried away what little remained of my temper, and I've becoming a perpetual crank. Everything is bugging me right now. Luke absolutely refused to get out of bed this morning, so I had to force him into his clothes and dump him on the bus without a bite of breakfast. Ugh. I know he probably calmed down as soon as he settled into the routine, but I really hate sending him off that way.
I really, really hate the way people get hired. Or rather, don't get hired. My husband has his degree, his certification is pending, and he's sent resumes to every single school district that's hiring. And what have we heard back from them? A great big nothing. No calling in for interviews, not even a courtesy call of "I'm sorry, that position's been filled." Nothing at all. My husband's heard from other teachers that it's quite common for the districts to hire new teachers at the very last minute, so this isn't entirely unexpected. But it's hideously nerve-wracking. And other than continuing to look for openings and apply, my husband can't do anything. Just wait. And hope. It's all in someone else's hands, someone else who doesn't know us and doesn't care that we have two children to support, one of them needing particular help for his autism, and that there's probably no other person they're considering who needs this job as much as we do. Most of the people in my husband's program were single kids who could go back and live in their parents' home for a year if they didn't get a job. :mutters and grumbles:
My husband's just out of school, true, but he's probably the most qualified newly graduated teacher out there. He spent two years subustitute teaching before going to school; he has all sorts of unofficial teaching experience from church; he has a natural skill of getting people's attention and respect and expressing what needs to be said very effectivetly. But they don't know any of that. All they know is he went to school, got good grades and doesn't yet have his certification, even though he passed the tests and applied and paid the fee, because the Department of Education is still processing applications from FIVE MONTHS AGO. Other people can sit on their lazy backsides and putter around with our business, while we work our brains out trying to get everything in on time, and hope that someone will please have mercy on us pitiful little people. I HATE IT.
Rant over. Yech.
