Heh, it's more than a bit ironic knowing that The Black Hole was one of many space movies hoping to ride on the insane success of Star Wars, but now that Disney owns the actual franchise....
I have a conflicted view of shipping myself. Obviously when the couple grabs my interest, I get ridiculously obsessive about it. And yet I hate it when fans fixate on ships to the point that everything else in the story becomes irrelevant, or worse, when the storytellers themselves focus solely on romantic pairings to the exclusion of all other story points (happens a lot in TV shows that have been running for multiple seasons, with irritating on-again, off-again relationship drama). At the end of the day, I have to acknowledge that there's considerable hypocrisy in my perception of things. Ships drive me nuts, except when I love them. And even then they might drive me nuts.

We can only ever speculate about what would have been the fate of Padmé and Anakin's marriage if she hadn't died when she did. She would surely want to continue trying to bring back the good man he was, but she'd have to recognize the need to get away from him, for her own safety and their children's. And she could never stand by him as he began a reign of terror as Vader. Not sure what could have happened. It's the stuff of many an alternate universe fic.....
