I went ahead and got the Episode II paper dolls, and proceeded to draw quite obsessively over the last two weeks. I'm pleased to note that my meager talent hasn't withered away from disuse. However, the paper dolls include only a fraction of Padmé's enormous wardrobe from AOTC. So I drew the other outfits too - a little more challenging going from photographs rather than illustrations, but some of them turned out surprisingly well. I also went ahead and threw in the two outfits from the deleted scenes, because why not?

I'm going to post my favorite of the bunch first, then everything else in order of movie appearance.

The meadow picnic dress, a fan favorite. I'm just so pleased with how this drawing turned out.

The fighter pilot disguise. Form-fitting pants are much harder to draw than flowing skirts.

From the deleted Senate appearance scene. I just love the marvelously over-the-top design of this one. Looks like something worn by the evil queen from Snow White, or the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland.

The first from the paper dolls. The hardest part may have been the headpiece, with all its fiddly little lines.

The gown from the packing scene. The first of many Princess Leia-esque dual-bun hairstyles.

The refugee freighter disguise. With fuzzy scribbles in lieu of the floral pattern....

The other outfit from deleted scenes, when Padmé and Anakin visit her family.

Not super satisfied with this one. I couldn't find a decent view of her facing directly forward in this dress, and portraying those flow-y sleeves from the front is just about impossible for my middling abilities. It's still decently recognizable, I hope.

Yes, I'm posting the meadow picnic one again. I just love it.

This one was a doozy. Form-fitting and all sorts of specific patterns on the skirt. Well, again, it's recognizable.

The dressing gown from the post-nightmare balcony scene. Meh. The original version is much prettier.

The first Tatooine outfit. This might be the best of the non-paper doll pictures.

The second Tatooine outfit. Did Padmé keep going back to the ship to change every few hours? You have to wonder. ;)

Curse you, form-fitting clothes! I was so dissatisfied with one of the sleeves that the erasure marks left a permanent smudge. Oh well.

I was determined to get the wedding dress right, and I'm reasonably happy with it, even if the lacy patterns are rather sketchy. And I don't hate the hands, which is always a plus! Hands are beastly to draw. Basically, human anatomy in general confounds me - I'm much better off drawing lifeless clothing. :D

I'm clearly enjoying this hobby. Maybe I'll go ahead and draw the Episode III costumes at some point, though they didn't make any paper dolls, so I'd just be scribbling my best approximation from photographs. Sounds like a fun challenge to tackle eventually, though I should probably take a little break for now.
