Many years ago, a boy named Luke was born. His parents were very excited as they prepared for his birth. He was their firstborn, and they rejoiced in that. They also worried and wondered if they would be able to take care of him properly. He was born at a time of great uncertainty in their lives. But his mother named him Luke, a name that always filled her with hope.
Soon after his birth, he was taken to a far off place where it was believed he could have a better life. It became clear very quickly that he was not an ordinary child. He had great potential, but he would need wise and patient teachers to train him. It was not easy to find them. And when his training began, he resisted many of their teachings. It was a period of many challenges, but also a period of tremendous growth and the gaining of remarkable gifts. He learned to focus his mind and put away distractions. He learned to be calm in the face of myriad frustrations. He learned to speak wordless languages of intuition. Many doubted his abilities. Some said that his training was a waste of time. Ignoring this, his teachers persisted, and he persisted, and he learned to respect their teachings.
Yet even his teachers, wise though they were, could not fathom the full depths of Luke's mind. Much of his strength was buried very deep, unregarded or underestimated. He tried to make them understand what he felt in his heart, but it seemed they could never quite grasp everything he knew. This brought him pain, though he did not let it discourage him. He knew who he was, and even if no one else could quite understand him, he would always be true to himself and his birthright.
The Force is strong in this one.

Date: 2015-12-17 11:53 pm (UTC)Next March he has an appointment at the augmentative communication center at the Children's Hospital, which will supposedly match him up with his ideal communication device (and get our insurance to pay for it). Here's hoping.

Date: 2015-12-18 04:15 am (UTC)Thirteen sounds old and young to me. In the context of one of my kids, or the kid of a friend, it sounds crazy old, and then I look at the middle schoolers on the bus and they are. so. young. And they probably have a good sixty, seventy years ahead of them; they're barely getting started. I didn't mean that Luke was literally like a baby or anything like that, just that in terms of his lifespan, pretty much everything is still ahead of him.
