Just got back from the SW exhibit at the Museum of Science in Boston, "Where Science Meets Imagination," which I've been wanting to go to for months. My parents and little sister are visiting this weekend, and we thought it would be fun to go together (and also to have extra hands for dealing with our two little ones ;). Well, of course I enjoyed seeing actually costumes and models and what have you, and took a boatload of pictures, but I was vaguely irritated by the tenuous "science" connection. Oh, sure it's a science museum, but they didn't try to squeeze in any science connection with the LOTR exhibit last year, except for a bit of the science of movie-making. SW as the inspriration for real scienctific developments? Meh. Doesn't thrill me so much. It also meant the focus was on vehicles and weapons and droids. No pretty dresses for me to take multiple pictures of. All in all, I preferred the "Magic of Myth" exhibit a couple of years back, though this one had the advantage of all six movies to work with. I still enjoyed it a lot and drooled over the authentic Vader suit and Wookiee costumes and what have you. It was also amusing listening to people talk the movies when it was clear they were only mildly acquainted with them, as opposed to other voracious camera-wielders who were obviously there for the same reason I was. It's good to be a geek.
