A Thousand Stars: Episode I, Part 8
Once again we have a scene with the apparently unassuming handmaiden, giving subtle portends of things to come. Commanded by the "queen" to clean up the plucky droid R2D2 as a reward for rescuing their ship from the blockade, Padmé is busily at work when Jar Jar makes an entrance. After Boss Nass's furious tirade, you might assume that one of the Naboo would view a Gungan with disdain. But Padmé is clearly delighted, and listens with fascination to Jar Jar's rambling tale. (My headcanon is that she sent diplomatic envoys to the Gungans the moment she was elected, and was repeatedly disappointed that the Gungan leadership never responded.)
Just take a look at the positioning of the two characters.

Padmé is crouched down in a humble position, performing menial labor, while Jar Jar towers over her, expounding upon his predicament with broad, sweeping gestures. Not only is it a direct contradiction of Boss Nass's assumptions, it's also a presage of the moment when the Queen of the Naboo will humbly bow before the leader of the Gungans, at last gaining his trust and solidifying their alliance. That moment never would have been possible had not Padmé first formed a friendship with Jar Jar -- two seemingly unimportant figures, two lowly to worry about the pride and prejudice between their peoples. This is the moment when that crucial alliance became possible.
Next, a contrast with the familiar...
