I, too, feel that the new movie's offenses against the prequels are mild ones of omission - no direct snide attacks; but, for example, it doesn't seem like the children have taken great pains to learn much more about their mother, and only refer to Vader rather than Anakin. While I can't say I was happy about that sort of pandering to prequel-haters, I was far more appalled by its rampant offenses against the supposedly beloved original trilogy. It almost has me wistful for the days of the Expanded Universe, where at least we got to see the trio all together, even if their lives were constantly crummy. How could the filmmakers take the opportunity to have Han, Leia and Luke in a movie again and squander it so clumsily? I suppose they thought they were being edgy and clever, but to me it's just a pathetic waste.
